FAQ-1.2 How can I export to SAP Crystal Reports

There is a Crystal reports Viewer that you may install to be able to export and open SAP Crystal Reports. Currently you can download the viewer from http://www.sap.com/solutions/sap-crystal-solutions/query-reporting-analysis/sapcrystalviewer/index.epx
Please note that this viewer is provided and supported by SAP Global

FAQ-1.3 How can I create a login ICON for FF.NET on my PC desktop

You can create a login icon on your desktop by doing the following.
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Key in www.forensicfiler.net for the URL address, then ENTER
3. Click on FILE and then SEND and select SHORTCUT TO DESKTOP (The wording may differ slightly between version 7 and version 8, but it should be similar)
4. An ICON with an F in a magnifying glass will be placed on your desktop.

FAQ-1.4 How can I test my Internet speed

There are several speed test websites available. Listed below are two different types of speed tests. Please see information on the test website for more information and to analyze the results.
www.speedtest.net tests the speed of your internet connection.
www.pingtest.net/ detrmines the quality of your broadband connection.

FAQ-1.5 How can I print to a printer at my office location

You would need to have a virtual private connection (VPN) to your office to be able to print to a printer at that location.

FAQ-1.6 Is there any scheduled downtime for access to the application

Yes, we have two daily 15 minute maintenance windows scheduled from 01:30AM-01:45AM and 04:30PM-04:45PM, that’s a total of ½ hour per day. However, we do not perform maintenance twice per day on a regular basis. We reserve those maintenance windows in case we need them. Primarily, if we are publishing an update to Forensic Filer, we will do so during the 04:30PM window. Updates occur several times per year, typically once per month. Server maintenance is reserved for the 01:30AM maintenance window. If we need to perform server maintenance or server reboots, we do so at 01:30AM. In the event that there will be a scheduled, prolonged service interruption for Forensic Filer, we will notify all customers via email in advance of such an event.

FAQ-1.7 How can I add a logo to the printed forms

One simple work around for this would be to print your logo on several blank sheets of paper and then use those sheets when printing the forms.

All of the Forensic Filer forms headings are the same, so for example, you could place the logo on the blank sheet on the upper left or right side of the form

Sample placement for a County logo on printed forms

FAQ-1.8 Can I use FFNET with a netbook or tablet

Yes, as long as they are using Windows XP or Windows 7 for the operating system and Internet Explorer 8 or 9 for the browser.

The IE security settings relevant to the PDF file opening in the Documents tab are:

In Internet Options -> Security -> Custom Level -> Downloads ->

“File download” needs to be enabled

The Adobe Reader settings relevant to the PDF file opening in the Documents tab are:

1. Close IE8 browser
2. Open Adobe reader (version 8 or above)
3. Choose EDIT--> Preferences
4. Select INTERNET from the list on the left
5. UNCHECK the "Display PDF in browser" box and select OK
6. Start IE8 and log onto FFNET
7. Open a case with documents and select one, it should open in a separate tab, you will need to select that tab and answer the OPEN or SAVE question.

SECURITY

FAQ-2.0 Are there security risks for remote users

FAQ-2.1 Warning: User has recent activity under a different session message

Why do I receive this warning message?
Image
This message could appear when you try and log in for a couple of reasons.
  1. You ended a previous session without logging out. This could be due to a power failure or you selected to close the browser before selecting LOGOUT.
  2. Another user is logged in with your profile. Please Note- This is a potential security issue, it would be advisable to contact your ADMINISTRATOR.
Resolution - In either case you can proceed with the login process by selecting the CONTINUE ANYWAY button which will force the other session to end. Selecting ABORT LOGIN will end your current login attempt.

FAQ-2.2 Why am I getting asked a verification question

  1. You will get a verification question asked if you or anyone is logging in to a PC with your credentials for the first time.
  2. You will continue to recieve this message if you do not select the trusted check box for this PC.

FAQ-2.4 I am an administrator and my account has been locked, can I reset my account

Yes you can. If an administrator is locked, they will be prompted to enter all 3 of their security questions. If all 3 questions are answered correctly, your account will be unlocked and a new password will be emailed to you.
NOTE --- If you do not receive the password reset email, please check your Spam or Junk Mail folder. Sometimes email from the website is mis-identified as Spam.

FAQ-2.5 I am a User (non-Administrator) and my account has been locked, how do I get it reset?

When a user fails to correctly login 5 times in a row, their account gets locked out. When an account is locked out, an email is sent to all Administrators informing them which account has been locked out.

  1. Click on "Utilities"
  2. Click on "Administration"
  3. Click on "Edit" next to the user in question

UTILITIES

FAQ-3.0 How do I enter people (or agencies) that may be used in multiple drop down lists

When entering a person, such as a doctor, you can select multiple functions for that person. For example, you may enter a physician that can be a certifier and also a person that pronounces a death. Please see the sample below.
Image
This same function also holds true for some agency entries.

CASE DATA ENTRY

FAQ-4.0 Can I use the back arrow on the browser to navigate between tabs during data entry

NO, there is no sure-fire way to know which page a user came from, and using any back history functionality would cause a page to be loaded in a indeterminable state and could cause errors in the data saved for that case.

FAQ-4.1 Which fields on entry forms display a selection list after entering the first two charecters entered

There are some fields that have very long lists of items available for selection. Listed below are the tabs and fields.
Please note - This function is also used for the selections on FORMS and REPORTS

Cause/Manner tab
  1. Four (4) Cause of Death fields
  2. Four (4) Other Significant Conditions fields

Medical Hx tab
  1. Eight (8) Diseases/Conditions fields

Medications tab
  1. Drug/Medication field

Cremation tab
  1. Four (4) Cause of Death fields
  2. Four (4) Other Significant Conditions fields

FAQ-4.2 Some cases appear to be missing from my selection screen

If you select the RECENT CASE radio button, only the 20 cases with activity will display in the list.
You can select the ALL CASES radio button which will display all of the cases based on last date updated.

FAQ-4.3 Are cases required to have a case number

Case numbers are not required although it is highly recommended that you use them since some forms and report selections and sorting can be based on case number sequence.

FAQ-4.4 The speed between tab changes seems to be slow, what can I do

There are times when the speed between tab changes may be slower than you are accustomed. Performance is typically determined by your network, PC or Internet connection. A general rule is if you normally have acceptable performance from the PC or laptop being used, there is usually some other factor causing the slower speed and not the Forensic Filer website application.

Please note - FF.NET is optimized for Internet Explorer 8 or above.

  1. Check the number of seconds between tab changes. If you don't have a stop watch you can use the 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, etc counting method to get an idea of the actual seconds between changes. Typically the speed should be less than 10 seconds, generally around 3 to 5 seconds is normal.

  2. Are you using a different PC either on your normal network or from another location. Different PC's and laptops may have slower processing speed than the PC or laptop you normally use.

  3. Are you using a different network, for example are you at home or a different office. Different networks, whether at another office or at home, may have slower performance.

  4. Are other applications open and performing normal. If you have several programs or other web pages open it can impact the speed of your PC or laptop. You can try closing some applications or web pages.

  5. Are other users either on your network or another location experiencing slow performance. Your PC or laptop may be performing some tasks behind the scenes, such as anti-virus checking or file indexing which can impact performance. Wait for a period of time or close some unneeded applications and see if the performance improves.

There are several speed test websites available. Listed below are two different types of speed tests. Please see information on the test website for more information and to analyze the results.

www.speedtest.net tests the speed of your internet connection.

www.pingtest.net/ detrmines the quality of your broadband connection.

FAQ-4.5 How do I change the sort order for the columns on the main CASE MANAGEMENT screen

Single left click on the title above the the column. Please see the sample below.
Image

NOTE
During the time the progress bars are animated, when moving from tab to tab, is indicative of actual data being transferred to/from the web server.

During the time the progress bars are showing but standing still when moving moving from tab to tab, is indicative of the browser trying to process the sent/received data.

So if the progress bars are moving for most of the wait seconds, then it is indicative of a bandwidth-related issue (network traffic, bandwidth, firewall packet filtering, etc) but if the progress bars are stopped for most of the wait seconds, then it indicates slow browser/insufficient-hardware.
